My best sales person is very argumentative


Q - My best sales person is also very argumentative. I appreciate her skills, but sometimes I just want her to do what I ask. How can I manage her better?

A - Are you listening - actively listening - to the arguments?  Are they valid?  What are the underlying reasons for her being so argumentative?  If your sales person has some great ideas about how to do things differently, you might be missing out!  Challenge yourself to make sure this isn’t the case.  If you have done this and still need to get her toe the line sometimes, have that open discussion with her.  Explain that there are times to have discussions (rather than arguments) and times that things need to get done.  Coach her through those times, acknowledging her input while being assertive about what you expect.
