How can I prevent staff leaving for the competition?




Q One of my team has left to go to a competitor, how can I stop this happening again?


A Firstly, I hope you held an exit interview with this employee, to understand why they left.  If not then it would be worth getting in touch with them now, to help you identify if this is something which is likely to affect other people, or if the reasons were specific to them.  If you have them, take a look at previous exit interviews to see if there are any trends.  In the future it is essential that you understand how each of your team feels on a regular basis.  Are they enjoying their roles? What aspects do they like and dislike?  Can they focus more on areas that are motivating for them?  If you can meet your staff's needs they are much less likely to leave, but also much more likely to perform to the best of their ability.
